Blood Type: An Anthology of Vampire SF on the Cutting Edge

Predators of Tomorrow, by Michael Kamp. Any story about vampires in space should be cheesy and ridiculous, but good writing, an excellent premise and a great protagonist make this a worthwhile read.

Some of the stories are what you would expect from this genre mash-up, though they are well executed. A number of them took the concept in directions I would have never guessed. A couple of them I still don’t quite comprehend and I find myself still disturbed by them. With 29 stories, they run the gamut from new spins on classic vampire stories, to more hard core Science Fiction, to some excellent Science Fantasy, and finally a few that are just classifiable. They run the emotional gamut from heartbreaking to humorous to truly disturbing. This was an expertly assembled collection that really explored the concept well.
